A CEO’s Cultural Correction


A new CEO, recruited externally, assumed the helm of a buying company for a large nationwide retail chain. He concluded that his first order of business would be to set a new tone. His management style and goals were very different from his predecessor, and he wanted to move fast. The risk was alienating the team whose support he needed.

The CEO engaged Innolect Associates to design and facilitate a senior management retreat to engage the leadership team, and achieve
Clarity around strategies, goals and a high-level plan. Working with the CEO in advance of the retreat, Innolect Associatesfashioned a powerful “case for change.” In addition, Innolect Associates and the CEO structured a “Built to Last” visioning process – one that would help the team connect with the CEO’s intent to change the business fundamentals.

At the retreat, Innolect Associatesled the team through “7S’s” – seven levers the team could use to recreate the company. With the “7S” foundation, the CEO and his team set priorities and outlined follow-up plans for each department.

Results. The CEO successfully established his platform and engaged the support he needed. Together, he and the leadership team accelerated a cultural shift and improved the company’s overall performance.
